This course provides a robust foundation for the integration of biological dental hygiene practices. Monday morning’s patients are coming in with dental caries, periodontal infections, and airway interferences that create low-grade, chronic inflammation that has far-reaching systemic consequences. Your goal is to help your patients improve their oral and overall health with a holistic focus. But what will you actually do for your patients? What you learned in school follows traditional practices that may conflict with your patients’ desire for more natural treatments. Your education from organizations like IAOMT and IABDM introduced you to more holistic concepts. In this course, we will lift the science off the page and into practical protocols that you can implement Monday morning and then build upon as you gain experience with biological healthcare.
It’s time for a paradigm shift as we consider our identities. Stop being the “Oral Janitor” and, instead, be the healer and “Biological Periodontal Therapist” we are educated to be.
Being “bio-logical” means that we look beyond the teeth and gums to the medical history, nutrition and nutrients, gut health, heavy metal toxicity, orofacial development and dysfunction, sleep, stress, chemicals, and biofilms analysis to affect change in the oral condition. This course will enable attendees to immediately implement research-based treatment options for a multitude of oral malfunctions, diseases, and conditions.
We will discuss simple yet effective natural chairside treatments, products, and protocols to share with patients to help them on their healing journeys. The importance of 21st-century technology such as phase contrast microscopy, salivary diagnostics, anti-infective periodontal therapies such as ozone and bio-botanicals, and Guided Biofilm Therapy will be reviewed. Uncover the secrets of a bio-logical dental hygienist in the 21st century and fall in love with your profession all over again.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the clinical significance of orofacial myofunctional disorders on the oral cavity and systemic health
- Discovering the root causes of periodontal disease and dental caries
- Recognize oral biofilm dysbiosis and its connection to leaky systems and chronic diseases
- Distinguish the link between nutrition and oral health and wellness
- Implement a biological preventive protocol
