Welcome to our new program!

Congratulations on your decision to become SMART certified with the IAOMT, and welcome to our new program!  Begin by accessing the mandatory materials that you will need to become SMART certified.  You can access these materials by clicking on the button below for the REQUIRED READING MATERIALS packet.  You will then have access to all of the necessary materials in a single PDF file entitled “REQUIRED SMART Accredited Member.”

Because you have already been accredited, you do not need to complete any additional coursework.  However, because the SMART recommendations are new and you might not be familiar with them, you will need to read the new recommendations in the REQUIRED READING MATERIALS packet.  You will also need to read the other materials provided in the packet, such as an equipment list and a checklist about the SMART recommendations that is provided to patients on our www.theSMARTchoice.com website.

You will be offered the opportunity to apply for your SMART certification at the end of the packet.  As soon as your application is processed, you will be notified of your SMART certification and the addition of the SMART certification emblem to your entry in the IAOMT Dentist Directory.

If you decide that you would like to read the additional, unrequired course materials, you can do so by using the second button for the “OPTIONAL SMART Accredited Member” PDF file, which contains the entire SMART course. It might interest you that the SMART course for members not yet Accredited consists of two modules (Module 1: Mercury 101/102 and Module 2: Safe Removal of Amalgam Fillings).  A checklist at the beginning of each section (Module 1 and Module 2) outlines a variety of activities.  For example, each of the two modules includes a number of readings, viewing an online video, and taking a test.   As previously noted, you are not responsible for completing any of these activities, including the tests.  They are only being offered to you as a resource.

Please also note that in order to maintain your SMART certification, each succeeding year of participation in the SMART Program will require the payment of a renewal fee, the cost of which will be established from year to year by the IAOMT.  The IAOMT may also require members participating in the SMART certification program to complete updated training.

We are proud to have you on board as a future SMART certified member of IAOMT, and we expect that you will benefit greatly from participating in this course.  Thanks for your support and partnership.  Click on the button below for the REQUIRED READING MATERIALS to begin your SMART certification!
